Microsoft addressed its action-packed agenda at this year’s Qatar ICT Conference and Exhibition (QITCOM) 2017, as “cementing” its leading place within the Qatari ICT sector.

During the conference, Microsoft was involved across all QITCOM’s categories, covering solutions from the fields of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, machine learning, cyber-security, the cloud and big data.

Lana Khalaf, Public Sector Director & Acting Country Manager, Microsoft Qatar, expressed her thoughts around Microsoft’s participation stating, “We would characterise our participation at this year’s QITCOM as an unmitigated success. It was our aim to demonstrate our strong support for the state of Qatar through our partnership with Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communication (MOTC), as they work towards achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030. We believe we have also cemented our place as a trusted leader in the Qatar ICT sector.”

“Microsoft is the biggest ICT player in the Qatari education sector.” added Lana Khalaf, “Our reputation in the teaching and learning arena is unmatched in the region because we understand that policy-makers, teachers and students are the ones who make education work, while technology is just an enabler, albeit a powerful one. Our commitment to education remains unshakeable and we will continue to lend our support to the digital transformation of classrooms.” A key component of QITCOM 2017 was TumuhaTEC’s Digital Youth Festival, organised and managed jointly by the MOTC and Microsoft. The Youth Festival offered teachers and students a fun-filled day out, in which they could engage with technology through TechTalks and interactive activities.

Microsoft’s QITCOM 2017 stand, spanned multiple stations, including the Surface Hub Wall; Trimble’s HoloLens Corner, where QITCOM attendees got to interact with pre-built holograms; the Digital Transformation Counter; the Devices Tables; Cloud Corner; and the Microsoft’s Partners’ Pavilion, where the company’s trusted partners displayed their own solutions. The Microsoft Education Wall also featured the company’s solutions for academic institutions and displayed the latest Microsoft devices with a focus on Office 365.

Microsoft further illustrated its education focus at MOTC’s hackathon, known as CodeCamp, in which the company sponsored the Students’ Digital Transformation category and distributed prizes to the winners. Microsoft’s aim was to encourage teams to host projects on the Azure cloud and to participate in the world-renowned Imagine Cup. Some of Microsoft’s executives from its Redmond HQ, Europe and MEA also participated in key panel discussions around environment, sports and cybersecurity.
