The Ministry of Public Health announced on Monday that the office for registering newborns and issuing birth certificates at the Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) issued 456 birth certificates last year.

A ministry press release said the office carried out 374 transactions during the trial period of the office from October 30 until the end of December, 2019. The cases were transferred to the office from other birth registration offices in Qatar. The birth registration office works in two shifts and is open from 7:30am to 12:30pm and from 2pm to 6:30pm.

New births have to be reported to the relevant government authorities within 15 days of the child’s birth in the country, according to the law. An application for a residence permit for a newborn must be submitted within 60 days of the birth, or the parents face a fine of QR10. Maryam al Obaidly, supervisor of the birth unit at the Ministry of Public Health, said the office was equipped with the latest technologies and highly qualified staff to expedite transactions.The new office works in conjunction with accredited offices to issue birth certificates in government and private licensed hospitals which include: Al Khor Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital, Cuban Hospital, Doha Clinic, Al Ahli Hospital, Al Emadi Hospital and Sidra Medicine.
