Vodafone Qatar continues to display its role as an important technology partner supporting the country’s sports sector as the Official Telecommunications Sponsor of the 2020 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters Golf Tournament.

As part of Vodafone Qatar’s sponsorship, its GigaNet network will power the venue with both fibre and mobile coverage, including 5G, giving players and spectators the seamless connectivity to fully enjoy all the features of the exciting new venue. This connectivity will also enable the live TV broadcasting of the tournament around the world. Taking place from 5-8 March 2020, the tournament will mark the official opening of the Education City Golf Course, a part of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. The Qatar Masters tournament, now in its 23rd year, is a major feature on the European Tour Calendar, and one of the country’s premier sporting events, attracting the world’s top golf talent and thousands of spectators each year.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Al-Thani, CEO, Vodafone Qatar, said: “We are delighted, as the Telecommunications Sponsor of the 2020 Qatar Masters, to support such a world-class sporting event, and we welcome the opportunity to use our technology and expertise to boost Qatar’s role in hosting the very best international sports tournaments. We look forward to demonstrating our industry leadership to help our event partners make the most of this impressive venue to deliver an unforgettable fan experience.”

From his end, Mr. Fahad Nasser Al Naimi, General Secretary of Qatar Golf Association & Director of the event, said: “It gives us great pleasure to organise a major sporting event that is broadcast to a global TV audience of over 500 million viewers in more than 90 countries. The 23rd edition of the event is a great opportunity to showcase the launch of the Education City Golf Course to the world. I would like to thank Vodafone’s team, as they have been a strong partner, giving us the connectivity we need to reach this global audience.”

Communications infrastructure that can deliver the capacity and speeds of the Vodafone network has become increasingly important to enhance the overall experience of live sporting events. Vodafone’s network has already had a significant role in several of the country’s highly successful local and international sporting events including the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup and HH The Emir’s Sword Festival 2020, enabling organisers, participants and enthusiasts to capture and share all the highlights of each day.
