Turkey will continue to support Qatar by sending foodstuff supplies by sea and air as part of its efforts to cushion the effects of the siege imposed on Qatar by its neighbours and defuse the Gulf tension, Turkish Ambassador to Qatar HE Fikret Ozer has said.
The envoy made the remarks on Thursday at a press conference to announce events to mark one year of the failed coup attempt against Turkish government on July 15, 2016. Ozer also confirmed the likely visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait from 18th to 20th August as part of his efforts to de-escalate the ongoing Gulf crisis and to promote peace between the three brotherly countries.
As part of the activities, a photo exhibition to commemorate the sacrifice and support of Turkish citizens in their efforts to thwart the coup attempt will be opened at the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre in Doha for public viewing.
Turkish envoy said,"We wish to commemorate the memories of our martyrs that included 249 Turkish citizens who lost their lives during the campaign of terrorist violence, including 179 innocent civilians who stood courageously to fight for their rights.
"We will never forget those who have lost their lives for democracy and the salvation of our nation. We will continue our efforts since we are committed to promoting peace in our country as well as in the Gulf region as it is of great important for us." On Friday, July 15 last year, a group of Turkish amby officers associated with the Fetullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO) launched a coup attempt at the General Staff Headquarters that was suppressed after almost 22 hours.
