Guests enjoyed laid-back hospitality from the heart as they were treated to authentic Greek dining at Santorini, to mark the occasion of the reopened casual dining restaurant at Shangri-La Hotel Doha. The exclusive event, held on Tuesday 10 October, brought this Greek dining destination back with a bang, taking guests on a delicious gastronomic tour of fresh Mediterranean food while showcasing its exciting new look following its summer revamp.

Named after the picturesque Greek island, famous for its white washed walls and blue-domed buildings, Santorini is Doha’s only downtown Greek restaurant, presenting a modern take on a traditional fish tavern – delivering fresh, simple flavours in new and innovative ways. At the reopening party, guests enjoyed dishes that embraced Mediterranean specialties and spectacular seafood served up alongside inventive hot and cold mezze dishes including Greek fries, Pantzári dip (beetroot and whipped feta), and Tzatziki.

Leading the team is Executive Chef, George Papadopoulos, who was born and raised in Athens. Gaining a wealth of experience at a number of five-star resorts throughout the Greek islands, George and our restaurant manager, Evangelos Demaine, had the pleasure of working together previously at a restaurant on Santorini Island. George's pride and passion for Greek cuisine and new culinary trends and techniques are evident in the menu and execution – every plate demonstrates his ambition to bring Santorini to Doha.

Commenting on the reopening of Santorini, Guiliano Ungaro, Food and Beverage Manager, Shangri-La Hotel Doha said: “We are extremely proud to reopen Santorini’s doors and showcase our distinct dining experience. From the fresh high-quality seafood on offer to the small sharing plate options and DIY salads, we offer a sociable venue and a true Greek experience, where great food and friendly service come together.” Santorini prides itself on its relaxed holiday atmosphere, where dining is a social, informal family experience. Its philosophy, which combines the best products of Greece with traditional favourites enables diners to recapture the magic of their fabulous summer escapes.
