Hundreds of Qatar Shell employees participated in a special ‘National Day Celebration’ organized yesterday. Two events took place, one at the Pearl Gas-to-Liquids plant located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, and the other at the company’s headquarters in Doha.

Every 18th of December, Qataris celebrate their National Day in commemoration of the historic day in 1878 when Sheikh Jassim, the founder of the State of Qatar, succeeded his father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Thani, as the ruler and led the country toward unity. National Day emphasizes the Qatari identity and history, embodies the ideals and visionary aspirations that the country was founded on, and pays homage to the great men and women who participated in building the nation.

At Shell the celebrations included cultural activities, a display of Qatari crafts, folklore assembly and presentations presented by Qatari staff to educate their colleagues about various aspects of Qatari culture. In addition, there was a specially catered traditional breakfast. The celebrations also included different activities including falconry, Henna artists and traditional poetry recitals. Special National Day gifts including flags and scarves were distributed at the event to join in the country’s celebrations on Friday.

Commenting on this occasion, Michiel Kool, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell Companies said: “We are honored to take part in the festivities of Qatar National Day 2015, a day that brings together all those who live in Qatar, both citizens and residents alike, to celebrate unity, loyalty, and shared pride in the nation’s many accomplishments. At Qatar Shell we are very proud that the dedication and commitment of all our employees enables us to continually support the Qatar National Vision 2030, and we continually strive to be the partner of choice for this great country.”

Qatar Shell employees represent over 61 nationalities from across the world and this event provided the diverse group an opportunity to learn more about the history and traditions of their host country from some of the more than 300 Qataris now working for Qatar Shell. Several expatriate employees came from Doha and Al Khor to participate in the event and expressed their happiness on this important occasion. Qatar Shell contributes to the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 through economic investments, but also through a focus on human development, both internally through professional development of Qatari employees, and externally through an extensive Corporate Social Responsibility programme in partnership with Qatari institutions.
