The pools for the 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Championships - taking place 5-8 June in Moscow, Russia - were unveiled on Wednesday. Qatar will play in Pool (B) alongside Romania, Lithuania, Russia, Venezuela and Argentina. This will mark the second edition of the FIBA 3x3 World Championships after a successful inaugural event held in Athens, Greece in 2012.
The 48 teams (24 in the men and 24 in the women’s tournament) from 35 countries will come head to head in the luxurious Luzhniki Park, with the colossal Luzhniki Stadium serving as a unique backdrop. They were divided into four pools of six teams (for both categories) for the pool stage, played in a standard round-robin format. The four best qualify for the knock-out stage starting at the last 16 phase.

On the other hand, HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation was selected as Deputy Chairman for the FIBA 3x3 Commission. In the 34th  GCC Club Basketball Championship, Al Ahli of UAE defeated  Al Etihad of KSA 75-69 while Al Rayyan suffered a 78-77 defeat against Al Kuwait of Kuwait. Moreover, Al Wasl of UAE recorded a 81-80 victory over Al Sadd.
