Qatar Foundation (QF) is set to host a night of exciting cultural activities to celebrate Garangao at Al Shaqab in Education City on Thursday, June 8.

Garangao is a popular children’s festival traditionally held across the Gulf region following the breaking of fast on the 14th night of Ramadan. To mark this year’s celebrations, QF is hosting a number of traditional games and activities, including ‘gaiss’ and ‘dahroui’, designed to be enjoyed by the whole family. The event will also feature popular traditional food dishes such as ‘harees’, a traditional Gulf dish made of wheat and meat; ‘khanfaroosh’, an aromatic sweet-dish; and ‘luqaimat’, sugar coated syrup dumplings.

The activities will include a ‘Telescope Corner’ and ‘Planetarium Show’ by Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI); an art competition for children by Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC); a planting activity organized by the Qur’anic Botanic Garden (QBG); and puzzle and wheel games by Qatar Biobank. Both Qatar National Library (QNL) and QF’s National Reading Campaign will hold storytelling sessions for children. Mrs. Machaille Al-Naimi, President of Community Development, QF, said: “Qatar Foundation is delighted to host this year’s Garangao celebrations at Al Shaqab. This is a joyous occasion, and our packed program of events is designed to bring together the whole community, including families and children of all ages and nationalities.

“Our Garangao celebrations are part of our commitment to preserve Qatari culture and heritage. The festivities form part of a wider year-round calendar of exciting activities designed to instill Qatari traditions among younger generations and foster social engagement throughout the entire community,” Mrs. Al-Naimi concluded. This year, QF’s Garangao activities reflect its overarching Ramadan themes – mercy, honesty, generosity, and tolerance – which aim to help promote good moral behavior among members of the community. These universal values are aligned with QF’s Akhlaquna Award, which was introduced by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, during the 2017 QF Convocation.

The event will run from 7.30pm – 12am on Thursday, and Al Shaqab’s Indoor Arena can be accessed from  Gate 7, Education City. For more information on QF’s Ramadan activities, please visit
