The visit of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to Germany comes within the framework of his keenness to build a strong and prosperous nation and consolidate its foundations through strengthening Qatar's distinguished relations with various countries of the world, especially those with political, economic and scientific influence.

HH the Amir's visit to Berlin confirms that Qatar is determined to move ahead with its plans to build international relations and global standing in accordance with its legitimate interests in all fields which serve the Qatari people and all brotherly and friendly peoples. Despite the fact that Qatar has made remarkable strides in its ambitious economic plans aimed at self-reliance in providing all the necessities of the country and its citizens, Qatar, under its young leadership, is keen to continue the process of renaissance and building through benefiting from the scientific, industrial and economic expertise available in industrialised and developed countries.

During the visit, HH the Amir will meet German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Chancellor Angela Merkel and other senior officials. The meetings will deal with strengthening bilateral relations and ways of supporting and developing them, in addition to discussing issues of common concern. HH the Amir and Merkel will open the 9th Qatar-Germany Business and Investment Forum, which will be held in Berlin on Friday. The forum represents an important occasion to promote bilateral relations between Qatar and Germany. The forum is expected to discuss the economic partnership between the two countries in various fields, particularly in infrastructure, industrial development, investment, tourism, health, sports and projects related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The forum, which is attended by senior government officials and decision-makers, as well as businessmen and representatives of the public and private sectors of the two countries, aims to enhance bilateral relations in all fields, especially those that meet the goals and aspirations of Qatar National Vision 2030, in addition to support Qatar's efforts to move towards a knowledge-based economy. Qatar-Germany Business and Investment forum is taking place at a time when Qatar's investments in Germany exceed 25 billion euros in car, technology and banking sectors.

Doha and Berlin have strong ties in various fields, based on mutual trust and common positions on many matters and global issues. These relations were strengthened through mutual visits between the two sides at the highest levels, including the visit of HH the Amir to Germany in September 2017. Qatar is an important partner of Germany in the Middle East and North Africa region. The two countries have partnership agreements in science, education, technical training, research and development, new and renewable technologies and many others.

Trade relations between the two countries have witnessed a remarkable development in recent years as part of their joint efforts to expand mutual cooperation. This development is reflected in the increasing number of German companies operating in the Qatari market, which now reach more than 300. The volume of trade between Doha and Berlin in 2017 reached $3 billion. Also, there is cultural cooperation between the two countries, as the Qatar-Germany cultural year was held in 2017. Germany is one of the world's most advanced countries and the fourth largest economy in the world.

The visit of HH the Amir to Germany and the discussions that will take place during the visit will contribute to boosting bilateral relations in economic, political and investment fields, pushing them towards wider horizons.
