Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday opened Umm Salal Centre for Health and Wellness. The centre is expected to provide services to nearly 50,000 patients in Al Daayen, Umm Salal Mohamed, Umm Salal Ali, Umm Al Amad, Umm Abiriya and nearby areas.
 
The Premier toured the centre and was briefed on services, facilities and medical care specialising clinics. The centre has 20 doctors, 77 nurses and 22 administrative staff. The facility includes public clinics, vaccination clinics, laboratories, pharmacy, radiology, dental clinic, an office of Medical Commission, health promotion, prevention and recovery services, treatment of eyes, skin and mental health illnesses and other health services and specialties provided by Primary Health Care Corporation. The centre is a part of an ambitious strategy to improve medical services and public health in Qatar.
 
Minister of Public Health H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari said Qatar puts primary healthcare as a basis for ensuring a comprehensive healthcare for the population. On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, she said the centre is the third facility opened by PHCC this year in areas where the number of users is growing. Dr. Al Kuwari said  more health centre are set to open in the coming phase in line with the best global standards and added the new centre offers comprehensive primary healthcare services and encourages citizens and residents to adopt healthy lifestyles to avoid diseases rather than just being treated.
 
Last Sunday, Dr. Al Kuwari opened Rawdat Al Khail Health Centre, equipped with latest equipment. It is serving people in Fareej Abdul Ajeez, Fareej bin Mahmud, Najma, Mansoura, Al Muntaza. Last month, she opened Al Thumama Health Centre, equipped with advanced facilities and devices. It can serve up to 55,000 people in Nuaija, Hilal and Mamoura.
