Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani on Thursday visited Msheireb Rail Station, the main station of the Doha Metro project, and was briefed on the latest developments.
During the visit, the PM listened to a detailed presentation from the officials of Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) on what has been achieved in the project so far. The project comes in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and reflects Qatar's concern about major infrastructure projects. The PM praised the progress accomplished in the course of work on the Doha Metro project and stressed the need to exert all efforts to finish it on time. He commended the efforts of Qatar Rail, including the company's leadership and all the employees who are sparing no effort in implementing one of the largest infrastructure projects in Qatar.
The first phase of the Doha Metro project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2019, while completion of the Lusail Tram is set for 2020. Qatar Rail expects to offer 600,000 passenger trips per day by 2021. By then, 37 metro stations are expected to be ready, with an average journey time of three minutes between stations.
