As part of the National Cancer Program’s (NCP) ongoing activities, the “Be Breast Aware” Wall Clock was inaugurated at the Women’s Hospital on 28th January, 2015, with the attendance of representatives from Hamad Medical Corporation. The inauguration took place in the Section 3 waiting area at Women’s Hospital.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was carried out by Dr. Shaikha Sami Abushaikha, Manager Special Program Division at (PHCC), with the attendance of Ghislaine van den Born, Assistant Executive Director of Hospitality at (HMC) and Fiona Bonas, Director of National Cancer Program. The massive wall clock, hung in full view of the waiting area, bore the campaign’s message “Be Breast Aware” written in beautiful Arabic calligraphy at the centre of the artefact. Surrounding this message are words of encouragement and empowerment, promoting early detection through being breast aware and acknowledging a woman’s ability and strength to protect themselves from breast cancer and face the disease head on.

Dr. Salha Bujassoum, Medical Oncologist /Hematologist and Director of Breast Cancer Screening commented, “It’s with great pleasure that we unveil NCP’s ‘Be Breast Aware’ latest installment. We are committed to supporting the NCP and it’s campaign’s ambition which encourages women to be more breast aware. Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in Qatar but prevention and early detection can save lives and for that reason we pledge to continue spreading the message of hope and empowerment to the women, with the support of the men of Qatar, whilst they are visiting our establishment.

Fiona Bonas, Director of National Cancer Program commented. “We would like to thank Hamad Medical Corporation that’s includes NCCCR and the Women’s Hospital for their endless support of this great cause and providing an ideal home for the ‘Be Breast Aware’ Wall Clock. We would also like to express our gratitude to HMC’s Breast Screening Program led by Dr. Salha Bujassoum for the support and contribution to the ‘Be Breast Aware educational material.”

In an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection, NCP has launched various activities and installments throughout the month of October around Qatar under the umbrella of its latest campaign ‘Be Breast Aware’. The campaign distributed pink ribbons in different women’s retail stores and dedicated pink posters in fitness facilities around Doha to expand its reach to more women in Qatar during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
