Director of the Municipal and Environmental Studies Center Dr Mohammed bin Saif al Kuwari recently inaugurated Mushaireb Hall for Computer at the centre in Al Udeid Tower in the presence of Director of Information Systems Department Hamda al Maadeed. The opening of the computer hall is part of the policy of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) to boost the capacity of its employees in the use of computer.

The hall will be integrated with the multi-purpose training rooms at the centre to increase the number of the trainees as 500 employees are expected to benefit from the biannual training programmes until the end of 2017.  Besides, 16 computer courses with 30 participants per each course will be organised. Meanwhile, Al Khor and Al Dhakira Municipality on Tuesday organised a blood donation campaign in cooperation with the Blood Donor Center at Hamad Medical Corporation. The municipality invited its employees, residents of Al Khor and Al Dhakira and employees at government agencies to participate in the blood donation campaign.

Besides, the pest and rodent control unit of Cleanness Section at Al Khor and Al Dhekra Municipality responded to 348 requests for insect and rodent control in July. Intensive pest control campaigns were also carried out across the municipality. The Health Control Section of Municipal Control Department at Al Shahaniya Municipality conducted 480 inspection tours on food processing shops and grocery stores in July to ensure their that food items are safe for human consumption. These tours resulted in taking three samples of food items and sending them to the Central Food Laboratory at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). Two of the samples were found safe while the third was found unsafe for human consumption. 

In addition, 65 warnings were directed to the owners of the grocery stores to commit themselves to providing a healthy environment for the display, preservation, preparation and storage of foodstuff. The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the quarantine office of Agricultural Affairs Department, examined 6,496 consignments of imported vegetables weighing 66,488.396 tonnes in July out of which, 126 consignments weighing 137.76 tonnes were destroyed for violating Agricultural Quarantine Law after found heavily infested with quarantine and non-quarantine pests.
