Meliá Doha, the first 5* Spanish hotel in Qatar, located in the prestigious West Bay region of Doha, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Sherief Abouelmagd, an American Egyptian, results-driven professional with over 28 years of experience in the hotel industry, as its new General Manager.

After graduating in December 1988 with a Masters degree from Florida International University, U.S.A. in Hotel Management and Food Service, Mr. Abouelmagd started his successful 28 years’ career with Marriott Hotels International in the USA where he held several managerial positions including opening and managing as General Manager the North and South Carolina Courtyard by Marriott hotels. Mr. Abouelmagd continued his successful career path with Marriott Hotels International in the Middle East from 1999 till 2004 managing the Cairo Marriott Hotel, after which he ventured on to other international chains such Movenpick, where he held other several GM positions. During 2009 Mr. Abouelmagd joined Meliá Hotels International, as Area Director of Operations for Egypt and Tunisia and recently join Meliá Doha as General Manager, performing dual roles.

Familiar with multicultural working environments and equipped with a great awareness of cultural diversity, Mr. Abouelmagd has a talent for assessing and mentoring high potential employees, proactively identifying and resolving problems, reversing negative trends, controlling costs, maximizing productivity and delivering major profit increases. “I’ve thrived and worked my way up in the hospitality sector for over 28 years now, and I am honored to be a part of a brand like Meliá Hotels International that has operated successfully for 60 years,” he stated. “I am thrilled to be working with the team at this incredible hotel in Doha and to witness the continued achievements of Meliá Hotels International’s very first Qatari property.”

New Director of Sales and Marketing

Director of Sales And Marketing, Mr. Hilal Saade who joined Meliá Doha in May, will lead the team to oversee all sales, marketing, public relations and meeting and events activities, while driving new business as well as ensuring that day-to-day operations run smoothly and within hotel guidelines. Mr. Saade is originally from Lebanon and has graduated from Ecole Hotelière de Paris in France. He has proven to have an impressive track record operating across luxury hospitality brands in Europe, the Middle East and Lebanon, including Le Gray Hotel Beirut, Hotel Missoni Kuwait and the InterContinental Hotels Group.
