In its fifth week, the ‘Aspire Banks Tournament’, organised by Aspire Zone Foundation in collaboration with Qatar Central Bank, concluded with four thrilling matches between some of the tournament’s leading teams.

This week’s matches saw Group (A) teams Standard Chartered Bank play against International Bank of Qatar, and Doha Bank play against Commercial Bank. Group (B) teams Mashreq Bank played against Qatar International Islamic Bank, and Masraf Al Rayyan played against Ahli Bank. 

Group (A) matches saw Standard Chartered Bank improve their chance of qualifying to the quarterfinals, after winning against International Bank of Qatar with nine impressive goals to none, preventing International Bank of Qatar from securing any points for the fifth consecutive week. In the same category, Doha Bank was able to beat Commercial Bank with four clean goals, bringing their total number of points to seven, versus one point for Commercial Bank. Group (B) team Masraf Al Rayyan edged closer to Qatar National Bank, who currently lead the group with nine points, after scoring an impressive 10-2 win against Ahli Bank. Meanwhile, Mashreq Bank scored another big win with a final score of 7-3 against Qatar International Islamic Bank.

In the sixth week’s qualifying round, taking place next Saturday December 10th, Group (A) matches will be played between Standard Chartered against Barwa Bank and International Bank of Qatar against Qatar Central Bank. Group (B) matches are scheduled to be played between Qatar National Bank against Qatar Islamic Bank, and Qatar International Islamic Bank against Ahli Bank. Running every Saturday from November 2016 – January 2016, the Aspire Banks Tournament sees strong competition from twelve banks across Qatar. The qualifier rounds are being played until December 17th, and the quarterfinals, semi-finals and final will take place in the first and second weeks of January 2017.
