Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has met its energy saving target through its campaign 'Tarsheed', according to an official.

Speaking at a public awareness programme titled 'Tarsheed Culture and Civilization' organised in association with Qatar Charity on Tuesday, Shamshad Alam, an official of Kahramaa, said 'Tarsheed', since its launch, has witnessed many successful achievements represented in reducing the per capita consumption rate of electricity. According to data, the per capita consumption rate of electricity dropped 35 percent and water by 20 per cent since the campaign was launched in 2014. According to International Energy Agency, the performance of energy saving is on top among other countries in GCC.

Alam said Kahramaa's target for sustainable energy is on the right track and public support is important for its success, urging public to change the pattern of water and electricity consumption in order to protect the environment and increase the energy reserve through Tarsheed approach. The speakers at the programme gave some tips to public about saving electricity and water in daily life, particularly during Ramadan, stressing that the programme continues to achieve its objectives at all sectors in reducing electricity and water consumption as well as reducing carbon emissions. Others speakers at the event included Eng Basit from Kahramaa, Habib Rahman and TT Abdul Rahim from Qatar Charity.
