The Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani met Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Rome on Thursday. They discussed bilateral relations and means of enhancing them in various fields, especially economy and investment sectors.

Mattarella said Italy welcomes Qatar's hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and expressed full support in hosting such an important global sporting event. He praised Qatar's worthiness to win the right to host the World Cup. Mattarella expressed his country's keenness to cooperate with Qatar in hosting a successful World Cup. The meeting also discussed a number of regional and international issues, particularly developments in the Middle East, especially the situation in Palestine, Syria, Libya and Yemen. They also discussed international efforts to combat terrorism.

The meeting was attended by a number of members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir and senior Italian officials. Earlier, the Emir was accorded an official welcome upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace.
