To celebrate Qatar National Sports Day, the staff of International Bank of Qatar (ibq) participated in the 3 km annual race organized by Qatar Central Bank (QCB) on Tuesday, February 11th 2014. The race, which took place as part of Qatar’s National Sports Day activities, was attended by an impressive number of banking and financial professionals.

The race started at 8.00 a.m.from Media Intersection and ended at the Pearl Site at the Corniche . Male and female participants from ibq were divided into 3 age groups each. The first age group from 18-30 years, the second group 31-45 and the last group 46-60. The race winners from ibq  were: Ian Hudson, Sreehari Thekkedath and Scott McIvor who came in the first, fourth and tenth places in their age group respectively.

“Realising the importance of sports in creating a healthy lifestyle, every year we encourage our employees to join their peers in the financial industry to participate in such an important event to promote the practice of sport, with the aim of supporting Qatar’s national vision to become a regional and global hub for sports.” said Jabra Ghandour, Managing Director of ibq.

With a commitment to sports promotion, ibq is also an ongoing sponsor of several sports activities including: H.H. the Emir’s Basketball Championship, the Oryx football team of the Lycee Bonaparte French School and the Qatar Cricket Master’s Tournament for the 9th year running. 

Held on each second Tuesday of February, National Sports Day is part of Qatar’s on-going objective to make sports and healthy lifestyle part of the citizens’ everyday life.
