Qatar Development Bank (QDB) announced today the list of speakers at The 15th Edition of the World Export Development Forum (WEDF), which will be held in Qatar under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State of Qatar, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani. The 15th Edition of the WEDF will take place in Doha from 20th – 21st of October 2015.

The Ministry of Finance of the State of Qatar, QDB in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), a subsidiary organization of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), will host the event. In a press conference held at the Head Office on Monday 12 of October the theme was revealed to be ‘Sustainable Trade: Innovate, Invest, Internationalize’. His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State of Qatar, will open the 15th Edition of the World Export Development Forum, in presence of policymakers, representatives of trade support institutions and business executives who are charged with driving innovation and internationalization. This is the first time that the WEDF will be held in the Middle East.

A welcome speech will also be delivered by His Excellency Ali Shareef Al Emadi, Minister of Finance of the State of Qatar, in addition to a speech made by Mrs. Arancha Gonzalez, the Executive Director of the International Trade Centre.

"This year the subject of the 15th Edition of the World Export Development Forum will be ‘Sustainable Trade: Innovate, Invest, Internationalize’, which will be a great opportunity to hold distinguished partnerships and to exchange experiences. The Forum will include a number of specialized workshops as well, aimed to enhance the tourist experience and industrial sectors,” said Mr. Abdulaziz Bin Nasser Al-Khalifa , the Chief Executive Officer of QDB.

He added: “Qatar Development Bank aims to help local entrepreneurs find new markets through contributing to development and promoting exports, as well as creating the best practice solutions with the diverse needs of Qatar in mind, beside enhancing new competitive partnerships.”

High-level panel discussions and practical workshops will focus on this year’s theme, ‘Sustainable Trade: Innovate, Invest, Internationalize’. There will also be business-to-business meetings to allow participants to explore new business opportunities, taking advantage of the Gulf countries’ unique position at the crossroads where East meets West. WEDF gathers over 400 senior policymakers, business leaders, heads of national trade to support institutions, and international agency officials to address trade competitiveness topics and to establish new partnerships.

The 15th Edition of the WEDF will focus on many themes, including trade in services, tapping the potential of tourism, driving diversification through trade and investment, innovation and entrepreneurship, the trade landscape, regional integration- from rhetoric to action, halal standards in new market, challenges and opportunities, innovative funding to internationalize access to finance is a major obstacle to growth for SMEs in developing countries.

The WEDF is a unique global platform to support trade-led development through high-level plenaries, workshops and facilitated business-to- business meetings. As the joint agency of the United Nations and the WTO, ITC is the only multilateral agency fully dedicated to supporting the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Its joint mandate combines a focus on expanding trade opportunities with the aim of fostering sustainable development.
