Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) has announced the completion of the registration process for the popular Aspire Torch Staircase Run (ATSR 2018). The unique endurance challenge pits runners against each other in a race up more than 1,300 steps to the 51st floor of the famous 300m Aspire Torch.

Building on the success of recent years, a new category has been added to the 2018 competition. For the first time in the history of ATSR, organisations including the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of Civil Defence, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, Qatargas, Qatar Petroleum and AZF have been invited to compete, with teams being drawn from each organisation’s workforce. The new format will kick-off with teams of five competitors in a relay race, in which contestants take turns to race between the 15th, 20th, 30th, 40th floors to reach the top of the Torch hotel. The winning team will be the one with the fastest total time.

Moreover, AZF will reserve a dedicated Fun Zone for families will offer a range of food and beverage outlets, taekwondo and kickboxing shows and a Kids Area including fitness demonstrations and toy horse rides Sponsored by Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Co. Nissan and De Boer, this year’s event will also feature other categories. The first category to compete will be the Junior (8-11 years), followed by the U-15 (12-14 years), the U-18 (15-17 years), and finally the Senior (18+ years) categories, with each racing to reach the 15th, 30th, 45th and the 51st floor respectively. 

The top three finishers in each category will receive a range of great prizes while taking in the spectacular views of Aspire Zone and Doha from the Torch’s top floor. Race times will be monitored using an advanced electronic chip placed on each contestant’s foot.  AZF has allocated space for registration and medical check-ups, in addition to a recovery room where ice bags and beverages will be available
