Taking precautionary measures to limit the spread of Coronavirus, the Ministry of Transport and Communications announced suspension of Doha Metro, Metrolink and public transit bus service on weekend. These services will resume from Sunday, said the Ministry.

“In view of Coronavirus COVID-19 prevention precautionary measures taken in the country, we would like to inform you that Doha Metro preview service, public transit bus service and Metrolink service have been temporarily suspended starting this evening Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 22.00. The service will resume on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 06.00,” said the Ministry of Transport and Communications on its official twitter account. These measures follow similar announcement by other ministries and departments to limit movement of public in public places.

Museums, play areas in parks, workshops and other such public events and activities have either been closed or cancelled to discourage people to gather in public places. Qatar Rail also informed its users about suspension of services on this weekend. “In view of precautionary measures taken in the country, it has been determined that the Doha Metro preview service will be suspended from Thursday 12 March 2020 at 22:00,” said Qatar Rail on its official twitter account, yesterday. In a short period of time, Doha Metro has become very popular among the residents. One of the main factors which have made Doha Metro popular among residents is the convenience and affordability.

Doha Metro has started Metrolink service which connects different locations to metro stations. Metrolink is a feeder bus network providing first and last mile connectivity to Qatar Rail customers within 2 to 5km radius of the Doha Metro stations. Over 185,000 passengers chose Doha Metro to reach different destinations on this year’s Qatar National Sport Day. Similarly, over 333,000 passengers had used Doha Metro network on December 18 last year to reach different destinations holding Qatar National Day celebrations.
