Mickey Mouse and dozens of his Disney friends are back in Doha to enthral thousands of spectators with their spectacular performance on the ice rink set up at Qatar National Convention Centre, said Gulf Times. Featuring lots of fun, music and dances, the “Disney on Ice presents Rockin’ Ever After” features old and new Disney characters such as Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck together with Rapunzel and Flynn from Tangled. Two shows will be staged today at 7pm and three more tomorrow for the finale.

The capacity crowd at the opening show on Wednesday evening was mesmerised by Brave’s famous character, Merida, and her triplet brothers, the cast of Disney’s classic Beauty and The Beast and Arielle from The Little Mermaid. Many of the children who watched the show wore Disney-inspired dresses and cheered for their favourite characters. Merida, Arielle, Sebastian, Rapunzel and the “fabulous four” were among those who took the time to say hello to their fans.

Spectators were also charmed and entertained by the humorous lines of Rapunzel, Flynn and Maximus from their “happily ever after” stories. “This is a completely new story and has new characters who came to Qatar,” said Matteo Tagliabue, regional marketing manager at Feld Entertainment, producer of the show. “It is completely different from last year, it is a mixed of four stories although you can always see Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy.”

The Little Mermaid had always been a big hit not only with children but adults as well. However, scenes of Under the Sea took the audience on a scenic journey with eye-catching costumes, dazzling skating and incredible lighting effects. Forty talented performers use 850 unique “costumes bursting with colours” for the entire two-hour show. The team is composed of highly-trained and professional skaters who have visited different parts of the world to perform in various Disney shows.

“I have done this 11 times in Dubai,” said 24 year-old Kim Becker from Denver, Colorado, an ensemble skater who considers skating as her passion. While their profession keeps them in great shape, she said it also keeps Disney skaters young at heart. “It is something that we grew up with and are passionate about it, and it is very hard to quit and stop doing something you love and enjoy,” stressed Becker. “Skating around the world is such an awesome opportunity.”

From Doha, Becker and her colleagues will go to Poland for another performance but need to take a short break in the US. She said skaters move around all the time and have new roles to play on a particular show. Besides other parts of eastern Europe, the team will also be going to the western side. They also have five shows in the US and each show is different. “Disney on Ice presents Rockin’ Ever After” is produced by Feld Entertainment, presented by the Qatar Tourism Authority and its Events Diary, OnQatar and organised by Sport and Entertainment Solutions in association with Events.
