College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) and the German University of Technology (GU-Tech), based in Muscat, Oman have initiated partnership discussions that would facilitate the exchange of best practices between the two technical institutions, and establish pathways for CNA-Q graduates to earn GU-Tech bachelor’s degrees.

The two institutions, which offer internationally-accredited technology-based programs that align to the needs of the local labour market, are seeking to collaborate on pathways within the program areas of Business Studies, Engineering Technology and Information Technology.

This partnership would be the first such collaboration between two technology-focused higher education institutions based in Qatar and Oman. However, an alliance of this nature comes as no surprise, as the two institutions share many common features and interests. Both institutions have similar mandates where the development of a competent and innovative national workforce is key, and where curriculum meets international standards in technical fields highly sought after in industry. Canada, the model which forms the basis for CNA-Q’s programs, and Germany, are both countries which lead in technology-based education.

According to Dr. Khalifa Al-Khalifa, President of College of the North Atlantic-Qatar, “CNA-Q is committed to securing continuing education opportunities for its graduates, and GU-Tech is a reputable institution which offers exceptional curriculum accredited by RWTH Aachen University in Germany. A partnership with GU-Tech offers CNA-Q graduates a chance to earn a bachelor’s degree and build on applied, competency-based skills for increasingly complex technological fields, while being close to home, in a similar culture and environment.”

Such partnership talks between CNA-Q and GU-Tech are in line with CNAQ’s strategic intention to increase and diversify pathways for its graduates, such that students who complete their diplomas with the College have multiple and varied opportunities for higher academic credentials. Graduates of the College can avail of seamless pathways to continue their education for career progression and mobility. This year marks the 17th year that CNA-Q has been providing high-quality experiential technical education in Qatar to support the State’s strategic vision to educate and develop young Qataris.
