Shipping companies must be fully aware of the contents of shipments and parcels before receiving and shipping to Qatar in order to ensure that these shipments are free of any prohibited materials, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has said. Shipping companies bear legal responsibility for the contents of shipments and parcels which they transport, the authority pointed out.

In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) related to a social media account about the closure of a shipping company for 15 days, Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department at CAA Talal Abdullah al Malki said that the company imported parcels without ensuring that they were free of prohibited items. The authorities concerned in the country monitored and seized two shipments that the company had imported without fulfilling the conditions and measures stipulated in the law. Accordingly, the CAA decided to close the company and alert it on the necessity to amend the procedures for acceptance of incoming shipments to Qatar, Malki said.

The CAA called on all shipping companies to check the contents of parcels, shipments and consignments as stipulated by the law, before receiving them, stressing that it will not hesitate to take legal procedures and exercise its full powers against any violation that affects the security of the homeland. The authority will take all measures to prevent the entry of prohibited materials that harm the security and safety of the homeland and its citizens, the statement added.
