A distinguished line-up of some of the world’s influential speakers on entrepreneurship are expected to converge in Doha for the third edition of the ‘Entrepreneurship in Economic Development Forum’. The highly anticipated event, which is being hosted by Qatar University and Qatar Development Bank (QDB), will take place on the 7th and 8th of March 2016 at the Sheraton Doha Resort and Convention Hotel in Qatar. It will be held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Prime Minister of the State of Qatar, who also headlines an illustrious list of speakers.

“The importance of this Forum is highlighted by the presence of high-calibre experts and decision makers in the field of entrepreneurship and there is no doubt that the government’s support to this important and vital sector is a key element in achieving the development of the entrepreneurial system in the state and activating it.” said Abdul Aziz Al Khalifa, CEO of Qatar Development Bank (QDB). “And at QDB, we are proud of the leadership role that we are playing to provide key services to this sector in general and to Qatari entrepreneurs in particular.”

Accordingly, I wish to encourage those who wish to learn more about entrepreneurship and how it can help boost the economy to not miss this event.”

Through highly informative keynote presentations and thought-provoking panel discussions, among the other speakers from both the public and private sectors as well as the academe are H.E. Kabalan Abisaab, the Ambassador of the Republic of Ecuador to Qatar and Mr. Kaleem Mohammed Al-Yaqoobi, Founder & CEO of GEE from Oman, who will both provide their insights in the panel discussion of on ‘Government Intervention with SME’s and Entrepreneurs’ to be conducted on the first day of the two-day Forum.

Meanwhile, participating in a panel discussion on ‘Entrepreneurship Within and Through Education: Educating the New Generation of Entrepreneurs - How can education channel students into an entrepreneurial path?’, which will take place also on the Forum’s opening day, will be Dr. Martin Hvdit, a Professor at Zayed University.

To kick off the second day of the Forum, Mr. Mohammed Jaffar, Founder of the E-Commerce business “Talabat.com” from Kuwait will reveal some secrets to his success in Q&A format session on ‘Success Story: How Did I Do It’. Founded in 2004 as a Kuwait-based online food delivery service, it has since grown into one of the largest companies in the region, covering Oman, the UAE, Kuwait, KSA, Qatar and Bahrain. The site operates with over 1,300 restaurants, including major brands like Burger King, KFC, Johnny Rocket’s, Hardees, TGI Fridays, and Subway. Due to its phenomenal success, the company was purchased by the German ecommerce group Rocket Internet for US$170 million in 2015.

The third panel discussion of the Forum on ‘Financing Entrepreneurs & Entrepreneurial Ventures: Institutional Financing, Angel Investors, Crowd - funding, and other sources’ will have Dr. Maher Hakim, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship from CMU-Qatar as a member of the panel. In the afternoon session of the second day, Mr. Ramzan Al Naimi, Creative and Branding Consultant for Al Jazeera Network will deliver a Keynote Speech on ‘Brand Identity & the Means of Social Communication - Traditional vs Conventional’.

Among the other topics that will be discussed in the Forum include a keynote speech on ‘Realizing Potential – Developing the Traits of a Good Entrepreneur’; a presentation on ‘How SMEs can tender to win business opportunities in Qatar Shell Supply Chain’; a discussion on Financial Inclusion ‘Obtaining Funds for Your Venture - Options, Conditions and Requirements’; a keynote speech on ‘Effective Methods of Using Social Media to Ensure the Success of Entrepreneurial Ventures; and a fourth and final panel discussion on ‘Building an Effective Entrepreneurship Ecosystem - Do we have what it takes?’.
