Two matches will be played today in the first round of HH the Emir's basketball championship for the sport season 2010/2011.

In the first match the Armed Forces will play Al-Gharrafa while the second match will be played between Qatar and Al Rayyan clubs. The result of the two matches will determine the qualifiers for the semi-finals of the tournament.

Wholesalers have reported a significant fall in the sale of food items in the local market which they attribute to a lull caused by rising prices. The sustained hike in food prices has been attributed to a combination of factors including a rise in shipment and storage costs. The prices are expected to go further up, following a rise in oil prices in the international market.

For attracting Qatari women to universities in the USA, Qatar’s first EducationUSA, a network of educational advising centres, has showcased a new initiative of the US State Department and US Women’s Colleges. The initiative aims to increase the number of women from the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region obtaining Bachelor’s degrees in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) disciplines.
